God in Three Persons
… and I’m not talking about the concept of the Trinity.
I have come to realize the journey to the very heart of His Majesty comes in passing through the persons of God, Himself.
::3rd Person::
I have vague shadows of my first understanding of God. I was raised in a Christian household and went to Christian school through kindergarten, so I formed my concepts of God early on. Most of us likely had a foolish perception of this BIG, BEARDED MAN sitting on a throne in clouds parting seas and making stuff. We spoke of Him only in the 3rd Person.
Over time, we saw that He was more complex than we could imagine. Growing into adulthood, we have a fuller sense of the complexities and simplicities of God. However, every time we think we “get it” we then have our foundations kicked out from under us by Him so we can not become complacent, not worship our image of God we have fit neatly in a box.
We even see this in scriptures. The earliest images of God tended to be more of a chieftain or warlord, but as we developed in our abilities to understand more elements of God’s infinite greatness, we see that the original truths of God held in the earliest days fit into a much grander complexity of God’s personality. God was (and is) much more than what we beheld in the past.
It is possible that, even prior to any monumental biblical events (such as the second coming, etc.), we may, as a society of believers, grow in greater understanding of God’s totality such that we will look at our current collective understanding as being a bit immature, or even silly. The thought may make us uncomfortable, but it isn’t a bad thing.
God as a 3rd Person is a Being to be studied.
::2nd Person::
Although I am only able to speak from my perspective, it is not the only one. That said…
At some point, we genuinely speak to the Creator. Most of us can recall the first genuine conversation we had with God, where we really felt we were at the throne carrying on a face-to-face with the Almighty. True communion.
This is when “He is God” becomes “You are God.” We start talking directly to the object of our faith, and think of Him less as a subject. He is spoken to as 2nd Person in our conversation. We begin to feel a part of the family, and God gives us opportunity to share in the joys of serving on this earth. We become His apprentice.
Personally, I have gained no greater understanding of the work of God, of the sheer complexity of His being, then when engaged in fatherhood. Giving me children gives me the greatest insights into what God does. It’s everything. My children have little or no idea, but they are totally dependent on me for everything. They depend on things they aren’t even aware of, such as health care and education. It’s my job to do all I can to ensure I take the best care of my individual children as each warrants. I have to think ahead, and see how all things that I do affect the lives of each child, as well as the family.
God shows me a sliver of the ultimate Job this way. He is the Master, and I get to be His apprentice. It’s just You and me, God.
::1st Person::
One day, when we pass from this earth and eventually enter into Glory, we will unite with the Master as one. Now, this may be a bit unorthodox, but we will likely, for all intents and purposes, become so closely intwined with God, see Him so clearly, have such a full understanding of who God is, that we will lose sight of where we end and where God begins.
Yes, we may even become God — or so close there is no difference. We are the bride. There will be a marriage. We will become one. One is one. The union will be so intimate that we will know Him in the 1st Person.
Remember, God is all the material there was when He created everything. His will is the ONLY material we are all made of. His will made into material. His will made into flesh. We are made of nothing else. One day, when we shuffle off the mortal coils of sin and evil, our will shall be His will. His will shall be purely our will. We will be one. We will then know God in the 1st Person.
The most exciting part of this is that we don’t even have to wait until death to see glimpses of the 1st person. Jesus gives numerous examples of the union of his will and the will of God. He also enlightens us to our powers — that we can move mountains and much more. All power of God can be found in this lifetime (and God’s all is really, really big).

Each step is an important one. We may naturally want to run directly to the 1st Person stage, however this only gives one dimension to God. You cheat yourself out of His fullness. Each Person is there for you to better understand the depth and breadth of His nature. The more you understand each Person, the more dimension your understanding of God takes on.
Anyway, just my thoughts.
