BrownKitty

6 August, 2009 (18:51) | Family

BrownKitty, my favorite little kitty buddy, passed away this morning.

He passed away less than a year after his 12-year friend Gracie Cat.  He was 16 years old — quite a bit of age for a cat.
He had been in great health for quite a long time, but his little kitty body simply began to shut down from [...]

Oh, Oh, Okra…

25 April, 2009 (20:05) | Family

Up at 6.
Beautiful sunrise.  Eggs, over easy.  Toast.
Kids, giggling.  Wii.  Oatmeal and eggs.
Outside to swing, play hide and seek, run and laugh.
Off to the park.  Monkey bars, swinging, slides, exploring the creek.
Very warm.  Beautiful, and warm.  Water bottles and juice boxes.
A kite saw light, but just too little wind to make SpongeBob fly for long.  [...]

Did I miss Earth Day?

23 April, 2009 (22:43) | Family, Life, People, World

I spent the better part of Earth Day pounding down the symptoms of a nasty little cold with all the chemicals I could legally and prudently ingest.
Needless to say, I have recently taken to embracing Earth Day by championing my passion for the planet’s greatest resource.  I wish not to diminish the efforts all the [...]

EATING SPIDERS by Emily Skye and Andrew Zimmern

19 April, 2009 (19:45) | Family, Weird

If you don’t know who Andrew Zimmern is, he’s the guy on the Travel Channel’s hit series Bizarre Foods.  This man eats anything that can possibly be served, so the idea of eating spiders is probably like a mid-morning snack for Andrew.
Emily Skye is my four year old daughter.
Now, honestly, Mr. Zimmern has nothing to [...]

Stuck on you.

6 December, 2008 (07:36) | Family, Fun

Strangely, the entire family was up in the five ‘oclock hour.
I took the time to try to freshen the GordoZone by categorizing all my posts (all 160+ of them), and making other little adjustments I’ve been wanting to do.  I’m about a third of the way through.
My eldest has always enjoyed stickers, and loves to [...]

Happy Thanksgiving, America, and God Bless!

27 November, 2008 (09:33) | Family, Holidays

Oh, my, I feel fat, and I’ve not even put a dent in all this food mom cooked.  Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, sweet potato casserole, corn pudding, lima beans, green beans, cranberry sauce (from a can, like it’s supposed to be), deviled eggs, pasta salad, veggies and dip, stuffing, bread… and GRAVY, lots and lots of [...]

Halloween 2008

31 October, 2008 (21:43) | Current Events, Family, Holidays

I took the day off work to play with the kids today.  It was loads of fun.  We’ve been having some Halloween fun off and on for the past couple of weeks, and here are a few photos to commemorate the events.

Peace, y’all.

Gracie Cat

30 October, 2008 (18:54) | Family

Gracie, one of my two cats, passed away this evening.
I have had both of my cats for over twelve years.  They were companions in ways I’ve never seen cats.  My other cat, Brown Kitty, is fifteen years old and still in great health.
At this age, they both lay around a lot, anyway, so I don’t [...]

Day of Rest

19 October, 2008 (19:52) | Family

Well, well, well.
Yesterday morning, I got up at 6:am for a business trip.  I got back home this morning just after 3:am.  In bed around 4:am.  The trip was great, the travel was hell.  Not really hell, but my back seems to think so.
I slept until 10:am.
I really, really intended to get to the 11:am [...]

Richmond Folk Festival

13 October, 2008 (21:11) | Community, Family, Music

The fam and I went to the Richmond Folk Festival yesterday.  Lots of fun.  Lots of good music.  We heard an amazing gospel group, Larry Bland and the Volunteer Choir, and an awesome band Irish girls, Líadan.  We saw some Diol Drumming, listened to folk band The Country Store, some African American Fife & Drum, a Laotian [...]
