Listen. Reach out. Love.

27 November, 2009 (00:06) | Spirituality

It is no more fair for a Jew to say that a Christian serves three gods than it is for a Christian to proclaim that the Jew is trying to work his way to heaven through Torah law.
For the Jew needs the Christian and the Christian needs the Jew.
It was the Jews to whom the [...]

Should I Pray For the Death of Terrorists?

6 June, 2009 (05:37) | Spirituality, Wisdom

I just read an interesting take on the question from Rabbi Freeman of Chabad.org:
An exerpt:
The quick and simple answer: It depends. If the enemy is the dark evil of this world, pray for an end to evil. If the enemy is a human being, defend yourself, attack first if necessary, and pray that all your enemies [...]

Benediction

17 February, 2009 (13:19) | Christianity, Spirituality

As I have noted here before, benediction means good words.
We usually encounter ceremonial good words that we call Benedictions at the end of religious services, marriages, funerals, and such.  These benedictions are the closing good words spoken at a significant event.
I also believe in the gift of other types of benedictions.  For folks who are Christ-followers [...]

humbleAwakening

12 February, 2009 (11:32) | Me, Spirituality

This has been such an odd week, and I’m only about half way through it.
I have had two very profound things occur in my life this week.  The one I am going to share I cannot call anything else but a humble awakening.
Don’t laugh, but it all centers around Mr. Rogers.  Yeah, the gentle fellow best known for [...]

Merry Christmas, and everything else.

Merry Christmas
Happy Chanukah – Shalom Aleichem
Oddly enough, one of my favoride days is December 22.  This is the day after winter solstice — days now start getting longer.  The Gordo sometimes deals with winter lethargy and loves all the sunlight he can get.
We’ve opened presents, kids are smiling and playing with toys, watching new movies, [...]

Tolerance (the good kind)

21 December, 2008 (22:33) | Christianity, Current Events, Spirituality

Maybe I’m a little silly on this, but the following article hit me with a little envy.
Baghdad celebrates first public Christmas amid hope, memories
All Iraqis are Christian today!
This quote above in the article hit me deeply.  Here it is in context (the whole article is worth it):
Even before I can ask Interior Ministry spokesman Major-General [...]

Well, lo and freakin’ behold!

12 November, 2008 (22:44) | Christianity, Spirituality

They figured us out.  Thousands of years of pulling a fast one on millions and millions of people, and a couple of high-minded psychologists have pulled the rug our from under the whole gig.
Science has figured it out: Guilt, Not Religion, Makes People Do Good
::sigh::
You really need to read the whole article, but here’s the [...]

Religion and Politics

2 November, 2008 (23:09) | Christianity, Current Events, Spirituality

Hello, folks.  I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on the potential before it’s written into reality.
I want everyone to carefully and prayerfully vote their conscience.
I know full well this means that good, believing Americans of faith will cast votes for opposing candidates.  Do not be ashamed if you don’t understand how a person [...]

Good Medicine

19 September, 2008 (11:56) | Christianity, Spirituality

I have the sniffles.
Actually, I caught the annual third-week illness.
I have a theory which generally has displayed anecdotal evidence to support it: a lot of high school folks get sick the third week of school.  When fall comes and we’re all back to school, we jump into the Petri dish of collective education and swap all [...]

Love the Jew

8 September, 2008 (22:23) | Spirituality

Genesis 12:1-3
YHWH had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will [...]
